the american version of the office does not look as good as the real one. it looks too dramatic, the humour less subtle, less boundaries crossed and the actors look like they’re acting. it should be about the monotony of daily life in an office, it should be bleak and realistic, at no point should it appear scripted, the camera editing should be natural with a more documentary feel, the dialogue smart but low key with more shots without dialogue to assume the atmosphere.
the office uk would go for ages with silence or customary dialogue then when something happens, no matter how minor, it grips the viewer. the build ups creep up on you then there could be one shot or a sentence that leaves you in hysterics or crying. the office and its short run was an absolute masterpiece and some of the greatest television i’ve ever seen.
i may give the american office a go but christ how that nation massacred remakes of life on mars, shameless and skins.

I watched the original version of the office but I never got into it. I didn’t always get the jokes. But I completely agree there’s always someone here who thinks they can do better than the original but it usually ends up being a huge failure.
